Board Meeting Report and Site Updates

June 21, 2007

Yesterday’s Board meeting was a relatively quiet affair after the commotion at the last two election meetings. Fewer than 10 home owners attended. With respect to the Board, Marius Ardeleanu was a new face, and Cathy Haugen was the only director who was absent. The only newsworthy item from the meeting is that our assets (reserves + operating money) have dropped to less than $175,000! That’s about $55,000 less than the projected amount mentioned in the budget notice from April 30. It also means the reserves are now less than 20% funded. We have updated the graph on the Money Matters page to reflect this evolution.

Other site updates include all the minutes for 2006 as well as the new Rules and Procedures for Elections and Balloting that were adopted this year.

Finally, there is a new flyer from Ardeleanu, Dotseth and Van Everbroeck with their reactions to the election results.

June Board Meeting on Wednesday, 6pm

June 15, 2007

The next regular Board meeting is scheduled for next Wednesday, June 20th. As usual, the meeting will start at 6pm and will take place at the Doyle Recreation Center. Likely topics on the agenda are the presentation of the reserves study and the budget for next year.

It is also possible some of the issues raised in this Open Letter by Glenn Lyons will be discussed. Please note that the letter was sent before the recent elections so it should be read in that context. Glenn Lyons successfully ran for re-election and actually received more votes than any of the other candidates.

As usual, comments can be left on the Buzz page.

Board Election Results

June 9, 2007

The votes were apparently close, but the three directors for the new two year term are Marius Ardeleanu (43 votes), Sam Goldberg (42 votes) and Glenn Lyons (48 votes). Marius replaces Ginger Cameron (39 votes) and will be a new voice on the Board of the Playmor Terrace. You can read his post on the Buzz page with more details. Also worth mentioning was the presence at the meeting of an off-duty police officer from San Diego Patrol to maintain order. Luckily he only had to raise his voice a few times.

Two proposals overheard at the election meeting:

  • Term limits for Board members? It was mentioned that directors should be limited to serving no more than two or three consecutive terms. Such an amendment to the Bylaws is possible but will require the approval of at least 51% of the votes.
  • New votes at adjourned meetings? There were a good number of owners (about 15) who wanted to change the original ballot they mailed in for the May meeting to support the three new people (Marius Ardeleanu, Kimberly Dotseth (39 votes), and Ezra Van Everbroeck (39 votes)) who only announced their candidacy after the May meeting. With these updated votes, all three new candidates would have been elected easily. However, California law is quite clear on this point: all ballots are final.

Adjourned Board Elections Meeting 6/6 with New Candidates

June 1, 2007

There weren’t enough owners represented at the meeting that took place on 5/16 to reach quorum, so the meeting was adjourned till next Wednesday (6/6) . The meeting will be held in the same room at the Doyle Recreation Center on Regents Road and will start at 6pm. Quorum for this meeting will be only 26% of the possible votes, so 43 owners have to be represented – either through a written ballot (sent for the previous meeting, but still valid), a proxy form, or in person.

Three Board members are up for election and the field of candidates has increased from four to seven. A flyer was just mailed to Playmor Terrace owners announcing that Marius Ardeleanu, Kimberly Dotseth and Ezra Van Everbroeck will be nominating themselves from the floor at next week’s meeting. They are promising to make the Board’s workings more transparent and to reverse the current Board’s reliance on legal actions against owners. You can check the flyer from new candidates.

Finally, we have added two new pages. One is called ‘Help a Neighbor‘ where you can ask for or offer help with practical problems such a needing someone to take out your trash can when you will be out of town. The other page is called ‘Buzz‘ and that’s where you should post comments from now on. The comments will be immediately visible when you visit the page instead of having to click on a small link.
